A catastrophic injury is generally defined as a severe injury to the brain, spine, or spinal cord, and may also involve fractures of the skull or spinal column. Persons who sustain a catastrophic injury in a motorcycle collision, car crash, slip and fall, or other accident, typically are unable to perform their activities of daily living.
